WaveAppDLL Evaluation Edition 1.0 Copyright 1998 Randell Downs. All rights reserved. Description WaveAppDLL16 Evaluation Edition and WaveAppDLL32 Evaluation Edition are the Win16 and Win32 versions of WaveAppDLL that may be evaluated for a 30 day period. The registered versions of WaveAppDLL contain both the Win16 and the Win32 versions of the product. WaveAppDLL is a Windows GUI (Graphical User Interface) application, and also a DLL (Dynamic Link Library) that can be used to convert Windows PCM wave files from stereo to mono, 16 bit samples to 8 bit samples, and down-convert several sample rates. In addition, the DLL can also get detailed information about the format, RIFF chunks, and playability of a wave file, and remove specified RIFF wave chunk types from a wave file. It can also remove all unnecessary data in a wave file so only the minimum required wave information is left. (This is required for older programs that don't support additional non-wave file information.) The DLL functions may be called from a program written in any language that supports calling DLL functions, and may be licensed so you can distribute it (royalty free) with your programs that use it (Professional Edition only). It was originally developed to be used by the installation program of a product that has many wave files. High quality wave files were to be shipped with the product, but they required a lot of disk space and some users would rather have lower quality sound or (even monaural sound) to save disk space. This DLL would allow the wave file size to be customized during installation! Wave file installation is only one example of how this DLL can be used. The Application Edition only contains the Graphical User Interface (GUI) programs. The Professional Edition also contains the DLL files and a single user license to distribute them. License See HELP, or the License.txt file for license information. Ordering See HELP, or the Order.txt file for product ordering information. System Requirements WaveAppDLL16 Evaluation Edition can be installed and used on Windows 3.1x, Windows For Workgroups, 95, 98, and NT v3.5 or later. WaveAppDLL32 Evaluation Edition can be installed and used on Windows 95, 98, and NT 3.5 or later. A Windows supported sound card is needed to play a sound file for before and after conversion auditioning with the WaveAppDLL GUI application, but is not needed for other operations. Installation WaveAppDLL Evaluation Edition is distributed in two forms. The most common form is what is called a ZIP file. This file has an extension of ZIP and must be processed by a zip file extraction program to extract the WaveAppDLL Evaluation Edition distribution files from it before this product can be installed. After the files have been extracted and are located on your hard disk or on a floppy disk, you must execute the file named SETUP.EXE. To do this on Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0 or later you click "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", double click "Add-Remove Programs", click "Install...", and so on. On other versions of Windows, execute Program Manager, click "File", click "Run...", select the setup.exe file, and run it. The ZIP file might be named wad16.zip, wad32.zip, wadnn16.zip, or wadnn32.zip, where nn would be the version digits. The other form of distribution is called a self extracting executable file. This file has an extension of EXE and just needs to be executed to install the product. The EXE file might be named wad16.exe, wad32.exe, wadnn16.exe, or wadnn32.exe, where nn would be the version digits. Uninstallation Always uninstall WaveAppDLL before re-installing it into the same directory! WaveAppDLL16 Evaluation Edition is uninstalled by double clicking the icon named "Uninstall WaveAppDLL16 Evaluation". (On Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0 or later, it is accessed from the Start Programs menu.) WaveAppDLL32 Evaluation Edition is uninstalled from Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0 or later, by using the Add- Remove Programs Applet in the Control Panel. (Click "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", double click "Add-Remove Programs", select "WaveAppDLL32 Evaluation", then click "Add/Remove".) On Windows NT 3.51 WaveAppDLL32 is uninstalled by double clicking the icon named "Uninstall WaveAppDLL32 Evaluation". The WaveAppDLL32 uninstaller does not support Windows NT 3.50 so the uninstall icon does not work and cannot be used to uninstall the product. You must do it manually by deleting all files in the directory the product was installed in, and removing the "WaveAppDLL32 Evaluation" program group. If the user (or the operating system) puts files into the directory where a product is installed, the uninstaller may report that the product was not completely uninstalled. In this case everything the installer installed will be uninstalled, but the files not created during product installation have not been removed, so the installation directory still exists. This condition can be caused by installing more than once to the same directory without uninstalling first. To uninstall completely, just delete any remaining files in the installation directory, then remove the installation directory. Distribution WaveAppDLL Evaluation Edition may be freely distributed (as long as all files are present, and the contents of the files are not modified in any way), with the following restrictions; written permission must be received from Randell Downs to distribute WaveAppDLL Evaluation Edition on CD ROMs, or bundled with any other product.
